(PRWEB) February 2 2004--The real designer of the Spirit of St. Louis was not given proper credit. If Donald A. Hall hadn`t died in 1968, he would have set the record straight, but his grandson is standing up for him instead. Author, Nova Hall is telling the historical aviation community that his grandfather was the true designer of the plane used in Charles Lindbergh`s trans-continental journey.
Twenty-seven-year-old Hall says he never knew his grandfather except through photographs, but in 1999 he opened a steamer trunk in his family`s garage that contained documents proving his grandfather was the rightful designer of the airplane. Over the years, history books have attributed the design to Ryan Airlines Corporation, but Hall says Lindbergh personally worked with his grandfather in designing the plane.
He has put together his grandfathers story in a pictorial biography, Spirit and Creator. The Mysterious Man Behind Lindbergh`s Flight to Paris. This collector`s book brings to life, the previously unknown collection of secrets surrounding the creation of this famous airplane. The over-sized horizontal format includes more than one hundred unpublished photographs, personal correspondence with Charles A. Lindbergh, original documents, design instruments, models, and film footage excerpts.
Aviation books have focused on the trans-Atlantic flight, but rarely describe the bigger story that is equally as remarkable. Spirit and Creator fills this historical gap. The Spirit of St. Louis was built in San Diego in only sixty-days, a feat that is impossible to recreate today without modern technology.
“This is a wonderful story, and a true one as well, in which friendship and adventure combine in a delightful account of two young men working together in 1927 to bring a dream to life, as they design and build a little silver airplane called the Spirit of St. Louis." – Reeve Lindbergh, daughter and author.
Nova Hall`s goal now is to see that his grandfather gets into the National Aviation Hall of Fame and the history books are re-written.
